Obituary for Velmarie Capelli
It is with great sadness that the family of Velmarie Roth Capelli announces her passing, on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the age of 89. She was born in Fairplay, Colorado at her grandmother’s home on February 17, 1928, to David and Mary Roth, who preceded her in death. Velmarie grew up in Jefferson, Colorado on a cattle ranch where she cooked for the hired hands that worked the ranch. She went to Western State College for one year before falling in love and marrying Jack Capelli in 1947. They spent the majority of their married life in Cañon City before she moved to Broomfield in 1997 after Jack’s passing. Jack preceded her in death as well as her middle child, Nick Capelli and older sister, Bernice Ford. She was a homemaker and also worked as a court bailiff in Cañon City, Colorado.
Velmarie was an avid reader, and was ready at the drop of a hat for traveling. She loved shooting craps in Las Vegas where she earned the nickname, “Granny Craps” from the many dealers. She was a huge high school and college wrestling fan. In 2001 she was honored as, “Outstanding Wrestling Fan” at Broomfield High School, an honor she held close to her heart.
Velmarie is survived by her son, David (Kim) Capelli of Joliet, Illinois; daughters, Laurena (Mark) Schmidt of Broomfield, Colorado, Diane Capelli of Chicago Heights, Illinois; brother, Jack (Marion) Roth of Arvada, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Nicole, Holly (Daryl), Emma (CT), Maija, Amy, Adam (Kristi), Andrea (Lance) and Matt(Lisa); twelve great-grandchildren, Marrissa, Anthony, Destiny, Daryl, Haley, Tyler, Carson, Adelina, Carrington, Delaney, Connor, Olivia and Adrianne; one great, great-granddaughter, Payton, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the nursing home where Velmarie spent her final days. The donations would be used for residents at the nursing home to have the opportunity to have their hair and nails done if they cannot afford to do so on their own. This was something that was important to Velmarie.
