Obituary for Rebecca Samuelson (McMurrer)

Rebecca A. Samuelson, 59, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on March 9th, 2018.

She leaves her husband, Kirk Samuelson, daughter Bridget Samuelson, son Derek Samuelson, mother Joan McMurrer, sister Sue Blandford, and brothers Robert, Steve and Thomas McMurrer.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert McMurrer, Sr. in 2004, and sister, Beth McMurrer, in 2006.

Born in Charleston, WV, March 12, 1958, Rebecca was born to a life on the move. Her early years were spent moving with her family through the Southeast for her father's job with the US Army Corps of Engineers. She graduated high school in Upper Marlboro, MD, and attended college at Loyola of Baltimore, MD. She married Kirk Samuelson on January 17, 1981, and within months of their wedding made their first of thirteen moves for Kirk's career with Peter Kiewit Sons Construction Co. Though her mailing address was in near-constant flux, Rebecca and her husband found a true home in the Wet Mountain Valley near Westcliffe, CO, where they first purchased property in 1989, and founded the Bar 7 cattle ranch, now a family venture, Flying Diamond, Inc.

From 2012, Rebecca called Westcliffe, CO, and Scottsdale, AZ, both her homes. She was passionate about painting, managing and improving the land of their ranch, knitting, biking, horseback riding, cooking, home and landscape design, fashion, travel, attending exercise classes with her friends, caring for her dog Coco, and taking care of her husband and children.

Celebration of life will be held on March 24th, at the 140 year old cabin she restored on the Olsen ranch property, in in view of the majestic Sangre Di Cristo mountain range (321 Pines Rd, Westcliffe CO). She will be buried at the Ula Cemetery on Pines Road, where she can continue to be part of cattle drives with her best friend and husband, Kirk.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam to:

Wet Mountain Valley Community Foundation (WMVCF): Rebecca Samuelson Program for Children in Art

P. O. Box 718

Westcliffe, CO 81252

Rebecca will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was immeasurably kind, caring, and strong. The void left by her passing is huge.
