Leo Emmett Lyons, 84, of Florence passed away April 16, 2018. He was born July 13, 1933 in Alton Illinois to Russell Thomas Lyons and Helen Marie Light who preceded him in death along with his wife, Rosemarie Lyons(Lamy) sister Rita Delores, brother Dennis E. Lyons.
He is survived by sister, Carol Ann (husband Ron) Tarczynski, four step daughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
In 1952 Leo Enlisted in the Navy and on January 8, 1953 and was deployed to the Korean War campaign where his duty assignment was a gunner on the USS Carpenter. He was also recognized in China service; United Nations; and National Defense foreign service for 3 years and 8 months. He ended his Navy enlistment on January 7, 1960. After his honorable discharge Leo studied Opera at Boston College.
Leo’s passion was singing opera for the Colorado Springs Symphony, Broadmoor Hotel and entertained dinner guests at Figueroa’s and The Edelweiss restaurants in Colorado Springs. He also loved telling the story when he performed an opera duet with the late Beverly Sills a renowned opera singer. Music was never far out of reach in Leo’s life as he played piano and clarinet as well and had the keen ability to read music. Leo enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Colorado outdoors. Leo also loved watching old western movies from the 50’s and 60’s and an occasional Bronco football game.
Leo was a kind man who loved his wife Rosemarie with all his heart as they were married 39 years.
Graveside services and Inurnment will be held May 11th, 2018 at Logan National Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. in Denver, Colorado.
