Norma Dougherty Wilson, 90, of Penrose, Colorado, passed away on Tuesday,
September 23, peacefully in her sleep. She was born on December 16, 193,4 to Vernon
and Grace Dougherty of Colorado Springs.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Norma spent her life selflessly
giving warmth, joy, and unconditional love to her friends and family. She was married to
Galen Richard Wilson on November 3, 1956. The couplehas lived in Penrose since 1972
and celebrated 54 years of marriage before Galen’s passing in 2010.
Norma is preceded in death by her son, Lee Wilson, and is survived by four children
—Charles Wilson, Gary Wilson, Michael Wilson, and Bonnie Haskell — nine grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren.
Norma retired from the Fremont County RE-2 School District after 20 years of service. A
woman of strong conviction and faith, Norma was also a beloved philanthropist and
active member of the Penrose Baptist Church.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service celebrating the life of Norma
Dougherty Wilson, scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, at the Wilson
Funeral Home at 1449 S. 9th St., Canon City, CO.
