Walter "Bud" Allen Obituary

Walter Ray “Bud” Allen passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025 in Canon City, CO. Bud was born June 5, 1942 along with his twin sister, Sally in Cape Girardeau, MO to Charlie and Alice Mae. After moving to Colorado in 1962, he was drafted into the Army and served overseas. He was discharged in 1965. Through a progression of jobs, he was led to Better Brands Beer Distributors where he was part owner and General Manager. He retired from there when the business sold in 1995. That experience gave him the basis for his future business endeavors.

In 1978, Bud married Sandi Strait in Canon City and embraced her daughters as his very own, as they in turn embraced him. After Sandi’s diagnosis of breast cancer in 1997, they co-founded the Orchard of Hope Foundation. With the help of many volunteers and wonderful family, they worked constantly at fundraising to help many cancer champions with their financial needs. As a couple, they considered that their greatest accomplishment. Bud was also a member of the Evening Lions and Veterans Car Club of Canon City.

Bud is survived by his wife, Sandi whom he loved with all his heart; daughters, Deanna, Denise and Pam; his twin, Sally and sister, Mary; in-laws, Ron and Gayle Knowles; grandchildren, Chad (Alysia), Chris (Nicole), Cory (Sarah), Dawn (Bruce), Cody (Kelly), as well as numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friends, John, Jack and Butch. Bud will forever be remembered for his wonderful, generous heart and will be forever missed by his loving family and numerous friends.

He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Darci; parents, Charlie and Alice Mae; sister, Joy; brother, David and brother-in-law, Rex.

A celebration of Bud’s life and legacy will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 12:00p.m. with a light lunch being served at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church: 801 Sheridan, Canon City. Please no flowers. Donations are kindly requested to Orchard of Hope Foundation: 111 Orchard, Canon City.
